The Victorian Bushfires - Remembering

A peaceful space and supportive thoughts.

It's an entire year since the devastating bushfires in Victoria, Australia - when so many families lost their lives and hundreds watched as their precious lifestyles and property were dessimated by roaring red flames.

Today I'm thinking of the people of those areas - the little communities of Marysville, Flowerdale and King Lake among them - as they continue the struggle to embrace this loss.

It takes time to recognise fully what happened that day.  Grieving takes time too.

Once this happens those who are affected, even from a distance,  can move on slowly towards the future.

We know that there will always be tragedies. But whatever the difficulty, it is certain that we human beings will get through to the other side more healthy and whole when we stick together, facing the future surrounded by loved ones and friends.

  5. June I remember seeing this on the news, tragic and sad. So nice that you are remembering them in your post.

I listen to the Australian Tennis Open on the net and really enjoyed listening to the announcers. There accents were wonderful, knowledge of game amazing but even more than that their sense of humor had me laughing out loud. One day I am going to be there in person.

    Take care/I care......:-) Hugs

  8. Hi June, Nice to hear from you and see you back blogging again. Yes, I moved to Wordpress. I like it better because you can do more with it but that is just my opinion. The fires were such a tragedy. Hope all is good with you. It has been a very cold and rainy winter here and I am so ready for spring!

I gaze over the seas and am astounded at the weird winter weather everyone is having. And then I look at the floods we're having in Oz, and the fear of fire happening again any time soon and wonder some more.

  20. Your last paragraph sums it all up for me, June. We are a species that thrived and survived through cooperation from the beginning. In the face of devastation and tragedy that instinct often rises to the surface. I hope, we humans someday recognize that we are facing great environmental threats in our future, and we must stick together, if want to make it.

  36. Hi Terra - and welcome. Marysville and the many other small towns nearby are still battling the effects of their fires on their lives. Victoria itself is grappling to make new rules and laws to prepare for any future crisis. At least the summer just past was wetter and cooler and they avoided any new problems.

  42. June, I just want you to know that I think about you and wonder how things are going for you. How's the solar hot water working out? We are expecting temps here on the weekend of 105 F.--I could have boiling hot water if only I had a system. I wonder why every house here in the desert isn't equipped with solar.

Well, greetings to you from southern New Mexico! Would love to hear from you.

Hold on a minute--I just looked back up at some of the comments. You're selling your house? How is that going? Hope all is well.
